The 469th Tactical Fighter Squadron was assigned to the 388th Tactical Fighter Wing on
the 8th April 1966 at Korat Royal Thailand Air Force Base (RTAFB), Thailand. Originally
flying
F-105D/F
Thunderchiefs, in November 1968 the 40 TFS deployed to Korat from Eglin with F-4E Phantom II's and on arrival redesignated as the 469th TFS (The 40 TFS designation returned to the 33 TFW at Eglin). The 469th TFS inactivated in October 1972, the 388th TFW reassigned to Hill AFB on 23rd December 1975 and operated F-4D's (4/34/421 TFS) until converting to F-16A/B's during January 1979.

During their time in theatre the 469th along with its fellow Squadrons of the 388th TFW accounted for 17 MiG's (388th aircrew flew whichever a/c were available, therefore squadron assignments in the table below relate to the aircrews not the aircraft)

The majority of MiG Kill info was compiled from Colors & Markings MiG Kill Markings from the Vietnam War by Kinzey/Leader and various other sources.

Also thanks goes to Gary Retterbush, who cleared up the unknown weapon for his kill on the 8th Oct 1972 -
'...the weapon for my second kill on 8 Oct 72 was also 20mm (96 rounds total including the exciter/test burst)'

Most of the other info came from two excellent books...

The 388th Tactical Fighter Wing at Korat RTAFB 1972 by Don Logan

Tailcode by Pat Martin.

Photo Info
Don took all these photos with either a Pentax Spotmatic II with a 50mm lens or a Petri pocket 35mm full frame camera with a 45mm lens that cranked out to photo taking position using a roller wheel on the top of the case. The camera was about the size of a cigarette package and he always carried it in the lower leg pocket of his flight suit. (He then transferred it to his g-suit).
