In January 1979 the first F-16's began arriving at Hill AFB, Utah, home to the 388th Tactical Fighter Wing. The unit would be first F-16 Wing to be declared combat ready and also the first to deploy overseas with the 'Viper' when the 4th TFS deployed to Norway in the spring of 1981 for 'Corenet Falcon'. 1981 saw the first overseas units receiving their F-16's, the 8th TFW at Kunsan AB, RoK and in Europe the 50th TFW at Hahn AB, Germany began trading in their F-4's.

Since then, the 'Viper' has gone through numerous updates and enhancements to become one of the USAF's most versatile and capable combat aircraft. Coming up to it's 20th year of operational use and with the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF), it's proposed replacement a long way from from active service, expect to see the Lockheed Martin F-16 Fighting Falcon for many a year to come...
